Dead Poets' Society-Rip It Out!

Mr. Keating asks his students to rip out Chapter 1 of their textbook:



Why do you think Mr. Keating did this? What was he trying to teach his class?

  1. He wanted to show the kids that living in the past is no more. The kids are now the future for society. He was trying to teach the kids to live by their own rules and use what they know to make poetry. Not use someone else to make them use a method of evaulating poetry. It should be all on thier own.

They didn't always need something to read out of, or something or someone to tell them what to do. They needed to learn to think for themselves, and be creative in their own ways.He wanted to teach them to be unique and self-dependent.

No one can tell you that something is bad because it is not what it should be, or what the past has showed us is right. There is some amount of what should be right, but the style of writing is always up to you how good, or bad.

I think Mr. Keating had his students rip out the introduction of their textbook because he wanted to teach them to do things they didn't really want to do and he was trying to let them think for themselves a little bit. He is also trying to teach them that poetry has no boundries and can be written in any way.
