Dead Poets' Society-Rip It Out!
Mr. Keating asks his students to rip out Chapter 1 of their textbook:
Why do you think Mr. Keating did this? What was he trying to teach his class?
He wanted to show the kids that living in the past is no more. The kids are now the future for society. He was trying to teach the kids to live by their own rules and use what they know to make poetry. Not use someone else to make them use a method of evaulating poetry. It should be all on thier own.
Mr. Keating wants them to be free thinkers, and to teach them that poetry cannot be "measured", that is a thing that has to be felt. Measuring is for the exact sciences.
(The video doesn't work) He wanted to show the kids that they should learn to think for themselves. He wanted to show that poetry is how you feel and that there are no exact rules.
I think that Mr. Keating wanted to show the kids that they were able to do things by themselves, and for themselves. They didn't always need something to read out of, or something or someone to tell them what to do. They needed to learn to think for themselves, and be creative in their own ways.He wanted to teach them to be unique and self-dependent.
He wanted to show that poems are not something to be analized(sp?) within an inch of death, but to be read and to be taken into one's heart. To take on a PERSONAL meaning, while keeping in mind that it might symbolize something else for someone else. FREE THINKERS!
He wanted to show his class that they will be learning to think for themselves and not be doing what they are supposed to do because people have their own opinions and thoughts.
Mr. Keaton did this to show the students there's no formula to evaluate poetry; everyone should have their own opinions. He was trying to teach his class to be individuals and become more independant thinkers.
(The video is not working) He is trying to theach them that peotry is not ment to be rated by someone for anyone else. You must use your brain to analize and be a free thinker!
Mr Keating did this because he was trying to show his kids that there is no "right" way to evaluate poetry. Poetry is experience and feelings and there shouldn't be rules to it.
He wanted the class to learn that poetry should be taken to their hearts and its greatness shouldn't be measured on a graph. He wanted his students to think for themselves and measure somethings greatness by how it influenced them, not the author of the textbook.
He wants to tell the students that you should never do something, or agree with something just because someone is saying. With poetry this is very important because it is your opinion. No one can tell you that something is bad because it is not what it should be, or what the past has showed us is right. There is some amount of what should be right, but the style of writing is always up to you how good, or bad.

I think Mr. Keating had his students rip out the introduction of their textbook because he wanted to teach them to do things they didn't really want to do and he was trying to let them think for themselves a little bit. He is also trying to teach them that poetry has no boundries and can be written in any way.
I think Mr. Keating wanted the kids to rip out the pages in the poetry text book because he wanted them to expirience the thrill of doing something out of the ordinary for a change. He was trying to teach the kids that doing something you shouldn't do can actually serve a purpose.
I think Mr. Keating did this because he wanted the class to think for themselves. He wanted them to be more like him when he was at Welton, and break away from the mold of the boarding school student that we have come to think of.

I think that he wanted to show the students that he isn't just an ordinary strict teacher and that the things learned in class will be things that require independent thinking and not just what a textbook tells you to think.

I'm not really sure...butt i think he wanted the students to learn that they should think for themselves. and not have a textbook teach them... He also wanted to teach them that there are many ways to learnn it rather than reading..so they should THINKK. but i really dunnno!

When Mr.Keating told his class to rip out the page in their book he was telling them to do that because he didnt like the message the book had in it. He was showing them not to rate the poem on a scale. It should be all their own poetry.
