  12. Hurricane Danny caused 4 direct fatalities and 5 indirect. It caused 100 million (128 million today). It struck in 1997. It spawned over the lower Mississippi River Valley. It struck Port Arthur in Texas. Port Arthur was part of Jefferson County. It had a population of roughly 57,000 at the time of the hurricane. It is right near the coast and has very warm weather. Port Arthur had a very good transportation system which helped with the evacuation.

    4. On the gulf side of Galveston Island, the tides were 7.5'. On the bay side, they were 8'. In one area, they were 10.7'.
    5. 23 tornadoes were reported during the hurricane. 21 people died, 25 were hospitalized, and 3094 were ill or injured.

    5) Hurricane Allen hit South Texas on Aug. 9, 1980. Also Bret hit right around the city of Galveston. Alicia cost Texans $2 billion. The loss of trees in the Houston area was staggering. In downtown Houston, shards of glass became deadly missiles when hundreds of window panes were broken out of skyscrapers by gravel blown from nearby rooftops. Alicia moved the public beach boundary back an average of 150'in Texas.

    5) Hurricane Allen hit South Texas on Aug. 9, 1980. Also Bret hit right around the city of Galveston. Alicia cost Texans $2 billion. The loss of trees in the Houston area was staggering. In downtown Houston, shards of glass became deadly missiles when hundreds of window panes were broken out of skyscrapers by gravel blown from nearby rooftops.
