Dead Poet's Society-Mr. Keating vs. Welton Academy

During the first scene of Part 2, Mr. Keating stands on his desk.
  1. Why does Mr. Keating stand on his desk?
  2. How does this lesson differ from what Welton Academy believes students should learn?
This scene is an important part of the movie. Make sure to keep that in mind.

In another scene of Part 2, Mr. Keating asks students to do their own "walk."
  1. What is Mr. Keating trying to teach his students?
  2. An administrator (Welton Academy staff member) is observing this lesson. What might he be thinking?

2. Welton believes that students should follow tradition and not try to be unique.

3. Again, he is trying to teach his students how to be different.

3. To be their own person, to not fall into the current.
4. He could be thinking that the lesson is crazy. They should learn to do what society wants them to do and if they feel like thinking later, they can do that.

3) Keating is trying to teach his students to do what they want and not worry about what others think of them.
4) The administator probably thinks that Mr. Keating is unorthodox and strange.
