Reflection on Your Personal Experience Speech

Once you've completed your Personal Experience Speech, please respond to the following questions:
  1. What did you think you did well?
  2. What could have been better?
  3. On a scale of 1 to 3 (1=Not Fearful At All, 2=Somewhat Fearful, 3=Very Fearful), how fearful were you before giving your speech?
  4. What, if any physical fear reactions (butterflies, heart beating fast, etc.) did you have?
  5. In your opinion, did you feel that what we learned about dealing with fear was helpful in this public speaking situation? Why or why not?
Please put forth honest answers and genuine effort during this reflection.

1. One thing that went well was that I wasn't really that nervous. I was nervous in the introduction, but after that I was fine.
2. I could have been calmer in the introduction, I think you could tell that I was nervous in my voice.
3. I was a 2.
4. My physical fear reactions were that I had butterflies and my heart began beatting faster.
5. I think that leaning about fear helped a little bit, especially right before I went. I was more prepared to deal with my fear and use it to my advantage.

I think I made very good eye contact and projected my voice well. I would rate my fear probably a 1.5 because I was kind of nervous, but I love the adrenaline rush so it was a good kind of nervous. In my opinion, it didn't really help at all because I had already developed a techinque to get over that fear.

4. I had butterflies.
5. Learning about fear was good because It was nice to know how things work.

1. I think I did well at making eye contact because I knew my speech pretty well.
2. I could've been a little calmer, but I dont think that you could tell how nervous I was when I was talking.
3. I was a 2.
4. I had butterflies, and my heart was beating fast, and my hands got cold.
5. Learning about about fear didn't help me much, because I was already able to keep my fear down enough so that I could perform my speech well.

1. I think that I made good eye contact most of the time.
2. I probably could've talked louder and been more calm, because my voice was kind of shaking.
3. I would say I was a 2.
4. My heart was beating faster and I had butterflies.
5. I think that it did help me give my speech, because I knew more about fear and how to deal with it. Even though I was nervous, it wasn't as bad this time, because I used to be terrified to give speeches. Now, I don't fear it as much!

I think I remembered to use details, so that it wasn't too short. I should have looked up more. I would say that I was somewhat fearful. I think that I had a few butterflies. I forgot most of the helpful things for dealing with fear. But if I had remembered them they would have helped. They would have helped because most of the fear topics talked about speaches.

Mike H-LRT 1/2B said...

My speech was pretty good. I should of made it longer. I was not fearful. If I was doing my speech infront of a lot more people I would have been nervous. Learning about fear had almost no impact on my speech.

3. I was a 2.
4. I had butterflies in my stomach and my heart was beating fast during the introduction, but then it calmed down for the rest of my speech.
5. The things that we learned helped mostly when I was getting ready to give my speech, but they didn't really help while I was giving it.

I think I spoke clearly and wasn't nervous and made eye contact.
I could've made my speech longer.
I am a 1.
My heart was beating a little bit faster before my speech, but I wasn't nervous.
I don't think what we learned helped in this public speaking speech, because it wasn't really 'public' we were just talking in front of our classmates which we do a lot anyways.

Caroline W-1/2 A said...

One thing I did well was not swaying and moving around during my speech. I could have made my speech a little longer. I would give myself a 2. My heart was beating faster before my speech. I think this speech helped with learning about fear because many people are nervous when they give a speeh or presentation.

Samantha K- 1/2A said...

I think that I projected my ovice fairly well. The speech cold have been longer because it didnt quite meet the time limit standard. Before giving my speech I was probably about a 2.One of the physical fear reactions that I experienced were butterflies. I think that what we learned about fear was helpful when giving my speech because I sordove knew what to expect.

1 I think I did well not talking to fast. Generally when I get nervous I talk to fast and this time I didn't.
2 I could have done better by not loosing my place. A few times I forgot what I was going to say next and had to pause to look at my note card.
3 I would say I was 2, somewhat fearful.
4 I got butterflies in my stomach before I did my speech but during the speech I didn't experience any.
5 Yes it was helpful because it helped me to be calm and know that everyone experiences fear. It made me more comfortable because I knew that other people understood what I was going through.

1. I thought i did very well on my personal experience speech. I dont get nervous in front of just 20 some stundents when i'm speaking.
2. I would say i was at a 1. I really don't get nervous in front of so few people.
3. Before my speech, my heart rate sped up, but that happens when i get exited, i wasnt nervous.
4. I think it was cool to learn that everyone gets nervous, but i think for me personaly it didnt do much because i wasnt nervous in the first place. I bet it did wonders for people who were nervous before though.

5. Learning about fear did help in this public speaking situation because it told us that the reactions that we were having were normal.

I think I did well with the actual outline. I could have had more eye contact.I would say I was a 2 in fearfulness. When I was giving my speech I couldn't control my hands. I think the speech just proved that I need to work on this problem. I don't think I learned any thing.

I would rate my fear a 1.3 because I was a little nervous when I started, but I was ok after the first minute.
I hade a little butterflies, and my plams were a little sweaty but I was ok.
I think it was really good to learn about fear befor the speech because I was perpared to face fear symtoms. I was also really pepare before I gave my speech, and I learned that in the fear unit.

One thing I could have done better is standing still.Out if three I would give myself 2 bacause i was kinda nervous in the beggining but was better at the end. One physical reaction was getting butterflies before I presented. I think I learned a lot about fear because mpw i am not as scared to talk in front of others.

Because some people have a very hard time with talking infront of people and now it shows that everyone is somewhat in the same boat.

1. I think that what went well was that I told all of what I remember about my story even if I didn't make the time limit.

2. I think that what could have gone better is that I talked kind of fast... says steven, and that I was kind of shaky and nervous.

3. I would have to give myself a 1.5. I was just more worried that if something went wrong, how many points would get doct.

4. The phyisical fear reactions that I got were shaky and butterflies... I really didn't get too nervous. When I get really nervous, I get really bad stomach aches. That didn't happen this time.

5. I feel that what we learned from the fear unit and others was very helpful and I think that when you get nervous, you are over estimating what is really realistic.

1. One thing I think I did well on not moving from side-to-side, back-and-forth, ex.
2. What could have been better, was the fact that not all of my speech was explained. For example, I didn't say why I sprained my tailbone or my wrist, but just how I hit my head. I also forgot to tell about how i was put into a wheelchair because of my tailbone, and a brace because of my wrist.
3. I think for my amount of fear that I was a 2=Somewhat Fearful, because I wasn't so afraid that I wanted to run away, but I was kind of fearful.
4. The physical fear reactions I expericed were sweaty palms, starting to fear warmer, and butterflies in my stomach.
5. I think that yes, what we learned about fear did help us with the public speaking, because people seemed to be more calm during their speeches then I thought they would be, and people didn't really look afraid of it all! Also, what we learned really helped me, because I felt like I was safe speaking in class because we were all going to have to go through the same thing, and that getting reactions from fear is perfectly normal!

I think I did well expressing the idea of my main topic. But because of the nerves i think my talking was a little hard to hear. I think that I was a 2. I experianced actually no buterflies in my stomach which I usually do. I also get a sickly feeling in my stomach but I didn't feel that either. I think learning about dealing with fear helped me because my body relized there was a job to do and it didn't waste time thinking about it I just got up ther and did it.

5: Knowing that everybody felt like that really helped me feel like everything depended on me.

2.I'd give it a 2, because I wasn't to afraid. I was just a little cold.
3.Just being a little shaky was my fear reaction. I was less afraid then I thought I would have been.
4.I think we do, because we knew about fear, and knew we were doing a job(our body)

I think that I presented my speech alot better than i thought i would. I probably could have stopped moving my feet and fidgeting. on a scale of 1 to 3 i would give myself a 2. i was very fearful before I gave my speech. I had butterflies, major ones. I think that learning about public speaking was very important and im glad that I got to see what it was like to present a speech, so when I have to give bigger speeches in life, I know what it's like.

1. One thing that went well was that I wasn't as nervous as i had thought i would be. I was, however, nervous at first.
2. I could have been calmer, but of course, I stumbled over words.
3. I think i was at about a 2, maybe a 2 and a half at the max.
4.My physical reaction was that i couldnt concentrate.
5 I think it did help a little, but of course, speaking in front of a class wasnt really that hard. In life, I'm sure we have to do this all the time. Im also sure that if i did practice a little more, it would have helped

1. One thing I think I did well was that I spoke loudly and clearly. Normally I'm really shy and quiet so that was definitely an accomplishment.
2. One thing I could have done better is improve my stance, instead of slouching or leaning back I could have stood straight.
3. On scale of 1-3 I'd say I was pretty much a one, sort of in the middle of one and two, more towards the one.
4. Before giving my steach I had a very brief moment of mild nervousness, the butterflies but a very, very mild case.
5. I think that taking deep breaths to deal with fear really helped, I think that when I took deep breaths it quit the butterflies in my stomache to worsen and it made me feel a bit more laid back.

I would be at a one i have never had a problem with public speaking all i had a problem with was a little bit in the beginning. the only fear reaction i got was shivers in the beginning of my speech. i don't think that learning about fear helped because i did not think about that kind of thing.
