In the final scene, Mr. Keating came to pick up his belongings. When he was leaving, Todd stood up and said to Mr. Keating that it wasn't his fault. The headmaster told him to sit down or be expelled. By standing on their desks and saying "Oh Captain! My Captain!", it might mean that they have respect for Mr. Keating, think that he was a great teacher, and that he did teach them to think for themselves.

I think that in the final scene when the students were standing on their desks was a sign to show appreciation to him and to tell him that they will use the knowledge that he taught them to think in different ways. The " O Captain! My Captain! part was to show Mr.Keatings that they thought of him as a captain or a leader.

In the final scene Todd stood on top of his desk and told Mr. Keating that it wasnt his fault and when he was finished he said "oh captain, my captain" I think this showed a sign of respect to Mr. keating and it told him that the boys respect him and that they learned from his teachings.

The final scene, was probably the most important and most inspiring scene to me. Mr. Keating had came in the classroom to gather his personal belongings. This is when Todd confronts his fears, speaks up, and says that it Neil's dealth was certainly NOT Mr. Keating's fault. Then, he stood up on his desk to symbolize that he believed in what Mr. Keating taught them-to look at the world in a different view. As more students stood on their desks, they started chanting "O Captain, My Captain", which symbolized to Mr. Keating the love and admiration the students still had for him.

In the final scene, Todd told Mr Keating that Neil's death wasn't his fault and then stood up on top of his desk and said "0 Captian, My Captian." I think that this was a way of telling Mr Keating that they all appreciate what he taught them and respect him very much.

In the final scene almost all the students stand on top of their desks. This represents the fact that the students still remember the very first lesson to constantly look at the world from a different perspective and are always going to apply it in real life. They call Mr.Keating "Oh, Captain, My Captain" as a sign of respect and that they value what they learned from him.

Standing on their desks and saying " Oh Captain, My Captain" meant that they respected him. It was a complement for him telling him that he was like a captain. Standing on their desks meant that they wanted to see things at a different perspective. Mr. Keating did that at the beginning of the movie and they were reminding him that they still followed his ideas.

In the final scene mr keating came in to get his personals and the room went quiet. Mr keating was about to leave the room when Todd stood up and said that they made them sign the paper and they knew he did do it. When Todd and most of the students stood up and their desks and said oh captain my captain it showed that they all respecte mr keating and they thought of him as a captain or leader

In the final scene, when Mr. Keating came to pick up his belongings Todd faced his fear for yet another time. First, he stood up and blurted out things like " It isn't your fault Mr. Keating, they made us do it" but then the teacher instructed him to sit down and told him that every outburst after that will get him expelled. Todd just couldn't keep himself contained and when Mr. Keating was just about to leave he stood up on his desk and said out loud "O Captain, My Captain." About half the class did it too after Todd. I think that the boys wanted to show their respect and honor towards Mr. Keating.

Mr Keating came to pick up his belongings. Just before he left, Todd stood on top of his desk, saying "O captain, my captain". Todd was trying to show that he respected him and he had learned from what Mr Keating had said.

In the final scene, Todd tells Mr. Keating Neil's death wasn't his falut. Then he and other students stand on thier desks and say "Oh Captain My Captain!" to Mr. Keating. I think this is showing that they respected Mr. Keating, and just like when he taught them to stand on his desk to think for themselves and see a new perspective, that is what they were doing.

Carly C-LRT 7/8B said...

In the final scene, Mr. Keating comes back to his classroom to gather his personals. Todd feels really guilty for lying and saying that it was Mr. Keatings fault that Neil died. Todd conquers his fear of speaking in public by standing up on his desk and saying, "Oh Captain! My Captain!" Many other students in the class do the same. By doing this they are showing Mr. Keating that he really did teach them to think for themselves.

When the administrator is teaching the class, Mr. Keating comes in to pick up the rest of his bags. Todd shout's out that he knows that it wasn't Mr. Keatings fault. Then Todd gets up and stands on his desk and says "Oh capain, my captain!" Standing on his desk means that Todd was looking from a different point of view and when Everybody is picking on someone for some reason, look at both point of views and not just one. Then Todd called out, "Oh captain, My captain!" and that means that Mr. Keating will always be remembered and that he was a great teacher. Then a few other students join Todd on their desks.

Then most of the members of the Dead Poets Society (Excluding "Nuwanda" because he was explelled; and Cameron, because he choose not to!) did the same. todd 1st burst out yelling that captain didnt have a thing to do w/ neils death. then he stood on his desk and called simply oh captain my captain. then others joined him.
i think that by standing up and yelling ocmc he was saying that he respected him and learnred alot from him.he was also saying he looked at the sitch differently than the others, and that he wasnt responsible.also, that he would miss him!!

To me the final scene was to show that the kids DID have alot of respect for Mr. Keating and that they knew it wasn't his fault and that they had learned was he was trying to teach them!
